  Aim  
 

The aim of the programme is such as to provide students with not only an appreciation of the theoretical issues involved in the study of business, but with a range of practical skills which will enhance their value to potential employers. Students will be studying about basic working of computers and the applications of IT in real time environment.

The early stages of the programme provide students with the academic subjects, which underpin the remainder of the course.

 
  At the end of the programme, the candidate should be able to:  
 
Understand the nature and purpose of business activity.
Understand the basic principles of both financial accounting and management accounting and their applications.
Understand the range and scope of IT in business and administration
Use the basic office software skills through the medium of MS Office Suite.

1 CBIS 101: Introduction to Business    
Course Description  

The aim of this module is to understand the nature and purpose of business activity, describe the structure of business, understand the business objectives of the various stakeholders, understand the environment within which business operates and the services available to assist, define and describe the functional activities within an organisation and understand the importance of their interdependence and apply business theory and concepts to practical business problems.

Topics covered in this module are Nature and Purpose of Business Activities, Structures of Business, Structures of Organisations, Organisations in their environments, growth and scale of business organisations, production function, marketing function, Finance & Accounting function and the human resource function.



 

 

 

 

2 CBIS 102: Introduction to World of Computers    
Course Description  

The aim of this module is to introduce candidates to the basic workings of the personal computer and its commonly used peripherals, provide an overview of the range and scope of IT in business and administration, to develop basic IT skills using windows, email and the internet and to lay the foundations for further study in IT or IT related subjects especially the ABE Diploma in Business Information Systems

Topics covered in this module are personal computer basics, introduction to software, practical introduction to windows, introduction to Internet and the wider world of IT.


3 CBIS 103: Introduction to Accounting    
Course Description  

The aim of this module is to Understand the basic principles of both financial accounting and management accounting and their applications, acquire the knowledge and techniques which will assist students in the performance of both financial and management accountancy functions in industry and commerce and to acquire the basic skills necessary for the pursuit of a recognised accountancy qualification.

Topics include Nature and scope of accounting, Double entry book keeping and ledger, cash and bank transactions, recording business transactions, trial balance, Trading account, profit and loss account, balance sheet, preparation, partnerships, Limited companies and cash flow statements.

 

 

 

 

4 CBIS 104: IT Applications and skills    
Course Description    

The aim of this module is to introduce students to a widely available integrated office productivity package, to develop practical skills in text processing, to be able to design and build simple spreadsheets and databases, to be responsible for managing the security and integrity of their own work files and to be aware of commonly used applications software for larger scale corporate administration and production

Topics include Introduction to MS Word, text processing and formatting, spreadsheet techniques, introduction to flat-file database and overviews of commercial IT applications and their advantages.



 

 

 

 

  Mode of Delivery  
  The programme is conducted in both Full-time (6 months) and Part-time (6 months) in a conducive and well-equipped classroom environment. The program gives students a full 390 hours combined instruction and practical hands-on training throughout for 100% of the program. Lessons are taught by MOE approved lecturers with study materials and courseware’s provided. An internal library is also available for referencing and research purposes
  Method of Assessment & Award  
  The programme consists of 4 modules. Upon successful completion of the 4 modules (written exam papers), students will receive Certificate in Business Information Systems awarded by The Association of Business Executives (ABE), U.K.  
  Entry Requirements  
 
  The Certificate in Business Information Systems is designed for individuals who are keen in learning about business concepts, accounting, quantitative methods and business communication skills. Following are the entry requirements for this programme:
 
  No formal qualifications are required but applicants must demonstrate competence in English Language.
  GCE O-Level students
  Students with 10 years of high school study
     
  Academic Progression Path & Career Opportunities  
  Graduates are eligible into admission to Diploma in Business Information Systems, offered by KWAP and ABE or equivalent offerings from other institutes.
